The Borno Urban Planning and Development Board (BOSUPDB) says it has begun the elimination of illegal posters, posters and campaign posters mounted along the streets and in the structures of the Maiduguri metropolis.

The manager of the Board, Mr. Umar Bulamami, stated in a statement on Saturday in Maiduguri.

Bulamami said the removal board for street signs, posters and illegal posters mounted on the streets and other public structures was in accordance with state laws.

He said the board had issued a notice on September 28 to companies and political parties to remove the posters and billboards without permission.

“Section 43 (3) of the BOSUPDB state requires that one must obtain board approval before erecting bulletin boards or signing posts.

“BSUPDB is an independent government agency. Our mandate is not only to plan the development of the municipality, but also to generate income for the state.

“As the electoral activities increase, the board reminded those interested in assembling posters and posters for the campaign of what is expected of them.

“We wrote to everyone, including the APC ruling, reminding them of the need to comply with the rules and regulations,” he said.

Bulamami explained that the approval could be obtained as a result of the payment of fees by individuals, groups or organizations as stipulated by the laws that governed their operations, adding that the restrictions were only applicable to public structures.

He said that the board had taken effective measures to ensure that the exercise was carried out without problems to clean up and beautify the city.

The manager, therefore, said the board would not approve the illegal construction of the boards and posters, warning that the defaulters would be prosecuted.

According to him, the board had notified a private company, Gams Advertising Agency, on November 27 to withdraw its illegal posters within a week.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Borno chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) accused the Congress of All Progressives (APC) of destroying the posters and posters of its campaigns in the metropolis.

The PDP accused Justice Commissioner Alhaji Kakashehu Lawan of involving members of the Joint Civil Task Force (CJTF) to destroy the billboards and billboards.

Lawan, however, dismissed the accusations as misleading, and said that the removal of the billboards was carried out in accordance with the laws in force.
