INEC hands over the return certificate to Buhari, Osinbanjo:
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented on Wednesday a certificate of the return of an elected president and president of the recently concluded presidential election of President Mohammed Buhari.
INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmoud, presented the Certificate to President Buhari and elected Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the International Conference Center in Abuja.
In brief reports, it is reported that the president of INEC stated that the president and his deputy would receive a return certificate after a candidate from the Congress of All Progressives (APC) as president of the elect, after the final announcement of the results in the early hours of Wednesday.
Yakubu said: “Ladies and gentlemen, in connection with the electoral act, which states that the return certificate is issued no less than seven days before the winner’s statement, I hereby declare that the return certificate will be issued to the chairman – elected and vice-chairman – for the second day in this room.
Buhari, who is the current president, defeated Democratic Party of Nations (ADP) candidate Atiku Abubakar to select a winner in a poll questioned seriously.
Announcing the final election results on Wednesday, Professor Mahmoud said President Buhari had heard a total of 15,181,847 people to defeat the nearest rival and NDP candidate, Atik, who interviewed 11,262,978 people.
From the very beginning, Buhari turned out to be the man he defeated, leading all the other candidates and eventually gaining almost four million votes against Atiku and collecting his largest package of votes from the northern northern states.
